Halloween treats

Yes, I'm at it again with more Halloween desserts, but give me a break- I'm a baker after all! So here are 5 more desserts that should be spook-tacularly delicious!

Isn't this bundt cake amazing as a spider web? If you go to the link the recipe has you dye a vanilla cake red, but if you're going to do that then you might as well make a proper Red Velvet cake. A silky, chocolate ganache would be decadent on this. The "web" could be either royal icing or melted white chocolate.

These candy corn sugar cookies are the cutest! I also thought this was a great way to cut them and get that triangular shape without needing a cookie cutter.

These Monster cookies are really fun with the candy eyes- you can find the eyes here but I found them in the baking section of Target. They were originally inspired by the movie Monsters University but they're definitely appropriate for Halloween.

These witchy fingers are just a plain sugar cookie recipe and then shape them into fingers. Use a small paring knife to create the knuckles and whole almonds for the fingernails.

These eyeball cupcakes are a little gross to look at, but I bet they taste good! Make any flavor cake and spread white buttercream as smoothly as possible. Place a lifesaver with a raisinet in the middle and then get a tube of red frosting and wiggle it out to make it look bloodshot.

I hope you get a chance to make one of these scary foods. I made the witchy fingers a few Halloweens ago and although they weren't perfect, they were a lot of fun to eat!

Not so tricky treats: five no-bake Halloween desserts

Continuing the Halloween theme we cannot, and will not, neglect the most exciting thing about Halloween- the TREATS! Here are my top 5 easiest Halloween desserts:

These pumpkin balls are made with crushed golden Oreo's & cream cheese (a delightful combination, in my opinion) and rolled in orange sprinkles with a pretzel stick in the middle. So easy and so cute!

Seriously, these marshmallow pops are for anyone who underestimates their skills as a baker. You don't even have to melt the chocolate if you don't want to. Buy the big marshmallows, some cute straws and black food coloring- 3 dots later and you have a tasty, scary ghost!

These pumpkin rice krispie treats don't seem much more complicated than the original recipe. I bet you could get really crazy and roll these into balls to look like pumpkins... maybe mini chocolate chips for the face so it's a jack-o-lantern... hmm, I might have to do that now!

This is a pumpkin ice cream pie, which is unusual for this time of year but if you live in a warmer climate, this may be just up your alley. Purchase a pre-made graham cracker crust and your favorite pumpkin-flavored ice cream (or take vanilla and mix in pumpkin pie spice). Once the ice cream is in the pie shell you could chop your favorite candies to make a face. What I think would be really fun is if you melted hot fudge (or took Hershey's syrup) and drizzled it all over the top to make a spider web pattern. You could do it with melted caramel too!

I think you could get really creative with these witchy hat cookies and make them into piñata witchy hat cookies. Just get chocolate ice cream cones and crispy chocolate cookies (like the wafer kind) and the "glue" holding the cone down to the cookie could be melted chocolate. For the piñata, get candy corn, m&m's (any small candy will do) and fill the cone with the candy before placing the cookie on it. What a fun surprise it will be when someone takes apart the hat and discovers another treat! I would've been crazy about this as a kid.

Tomorrow I'm going to post my top 5 Halloween treats that may involve turning on the oven. They won't be overly complicated, just not as quick as a 5 minute treat. 

Scary Savory Food

I don't know about you, but I'm still in Halloween mode. I've seen so many fun Halloween freaky-food ideas that it's worth taking a look at. Maybe you are going to a party and need some ideas. Maybe you like to get creative with food for a family dinner. Maybe you like to scare the daylights out of your co-workers and surprise them with 1.) you actually brought food to share and 2.) that it's Halloween creepy food. Regardless of the reason, these food ideas are fun and artistic.

Aren't these mummy hot dogs great? Pillsbury crescent dough wrapped around hot dogs, baked and then 2 little ketchup dots for eyes and you are done! My mom used to make hot dogs on Halloween night because it was fast- we had a candy agenda after all. I could've seen her making these for us.

Maybe you're not a hot dog person but want to stay within the mummy theme then these are the pizza's for you. Just tear apart string cheese and lay it down in strips, criss crossing. Two sliced olives really make these mummies come alive (or is it dead?).

Aren't these mouths a scream? (FYI, I'm only going to apologize once for all the lame puns. Sorry!) Apple slices with either peanut butter or nutella and some mini marshmallows will have your kids chattering about these for days.

If you're into pumpkin carving then this should definitely be something you bring to a party. This image makes me laugh (and grosses me out a little, admittedly). Dip, veggies and the pumpkin all make for a perfect centerpiece.

If you're not into carving pumpkins, then just display the veggie tray in a creative way. Dip for the head, lettuce for the hair and then all the veggies laid out like a skeleton- genius!

Halloween looks, part deux

I couldn't help myself, there are so many creative Halloween costumes that I had to do another post!

This kitty-cat is just a lot of black liner- so easy and yet so dramatic! Pair this with an all-black outfit, black tail, kitty ears and no one will want to cross your path!

These wiggly eyes allover the face make me laugh and creep me out at the same time. I like the use of various sizes to create a pattern. Eyelash glue would keep these stuck, but I'd be careful about expressions- you don't want a wiggly eye popping off into your own eye!

Ok if you're seriously makeup challenged, how creepy/cool are these temporary zipper tattoos? No worrying about your makeup smudging or smearing. Just slap these babies on and your ready!

The Roaring '20's are so popular right now and this headpiece is AH-MAY-ZING! It could even be considered bridal it's so pretty. A dark wine/berry lip lacquer with a delicate winged out black eyeliner would keep this look fresh and modern.

This Scarecrow look is less dopey and more beauty. A peachy, shimmer-free lipstick for the lips, cheeks and nose and then a black waterproof liner for the rest should be all you need to pull this together.

Not your average Halloween looks

With Halloween right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to post some costume makeup looks. I am SO over the witch costume, so here are some adult, creative looks without having to be "sexy nurse". Some of the looks are advanced but I think they're mostly re-creatable. 

I love Minnie Mouse. Red lip, red nails, false lashes and some big ears really pull this look into a grown-up Minnie.

This Bambi, or deer, look has been all over Pinterest and I think it's so cute- especially if you're olive or darker skin tone because then the white spots would be more obvious. I would use a new #2 pencil (with an unused eraser) and dip the eraser into a white, matte cream to get an opaque coverage. This would create even, allover dots.

Who needs Spiderman when you can be your own super hero? Start with a matte red lipstick as the base and then apply the web lines with a black, waterproof pencil. Use blue eyeshadow on the outer edges and you have your own custom Spidey-mask! 

For anyone who's not that savvy with makeup, a pretty mask is always a good idea. This snowflake mask is absolutely gorgeous. Pair it with a glittering, bedazzled flowing white dress and add some body shimmer and you are done!

With the right gown, a masquerade mask would be beautiful with a black, winged eyeliner, red lacquered lip and gorgeous flowing hair.
